Unexposed Kashmir – Kate Lambe

Kashmir has been experiencing civil unrest for many decades due to a territorial dispute that has left thousands dead in its wake.

Violence in this region appeared to be decreasing over recent years, however skirmishes during the Summer of 2010 escalated into what became the bloodiest months of Kashmir’s history for more than 20 years, with over 100 civilians killed.

I stayed with a local family in Kashmir’s capital Srinagar to document their solidity during this difficult period, and to explore the dynamics of the 28 family members in which there are a number of self-proclaimed ‘stone-pelters’ who are regularly involved in violent protests against the Indian army.
